Garden Shed Building Projects

Garden Sheds in today's market come in a full range of different sizes, shapes and styles. Because of this you need to choose wisely. This article helps.

Building a garden shed is definitely not a one person job. First and foremost you need to measure up and plan your project. This article provides advice on choosing the right garden shed and planning your project.

The Right Shed for You

With a large range of shed designs, styles and sizes on the market the decision can be difficult. You need to consider the size, what it is going to be used for, your personal tastes and your surroundings.

Measure up and try to compare these measurements with the sizes stated in catalogues and on the internet. Think of its use. Is it just going to be for storage or a utility room or are you going to use it as a workshop or outhouse.

Prepare the Ground

With building a garden shed preparation is everything. A garden shed needs to be constructed on level and solid ground. You may have to lay a concrete base if your garden does not provide, or you can not clear such a solid level ground. Concrete bases for sheds need to be slightly smaller than the size of the shed to allow for rainwater. You may need to treat your sheds wooden surfaces before building if it is not already pre-treated.

Building your Garden Shed

Make sure the shed base is laid out square on the concrete, solid or slab base. You will then need to lift up the gable end of the shed into the right position and prop it up. You will need to the lift up the side panel and screw it to the gable end. You will then need to attach and screw into place the other sides of the shed. This is not a one person job. Fit the roof beam if you have one.

Hang the door in the frame, test it and if it does not swing easily and freely you will need to adjust the walls as they will not be square. Once this is done and you are happy that the shed is square then it is time to fit the roof panels and nail the structure to the shed floor.

Once this is done you will need to cut the shed roof felt to size as to your instruction manual and then secure it in place. Once this is done you will need to fit the windows if you have any.

From here on maintaining the shed is key to it lasting you a life time. You may have to routinely replace the felt because of weather damage as well as treating the timbre on a yearly damage to protect the wood.
